This is a mapping  carried out within the framework of the pilot study Free Choice of Assistive Technology which has been conducted in three county councils in Sweden during 2008 and 2009.

The aim of the mapping is to describe the situation with regard to assistive technology provision in specific European countries and the degree to which some form of free-choice solution is available.

The countries included in the report are Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain.

In August 2007 The Swedish Institute of Assistive Technology (SIAT) was commissioned by the government to coordinate, disseminate information and to consult with SIAT's user group over the period 2007–2009, and also to provide an overall report of the experiences derived from the project “Free Choice Of Assistive Technology”. Now, over 500 assistive technology users have chosen to buy their assistive device via “Free Choice of Assistive Technology”.

The report 2009 describes how SIAT and the three county councils, who conduct the trial, have been working with the commission during 2008 and spring 2009.
