The project “Technology and Dementia in the Nordic countries” has documented and disseminated information about technology and dementia from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden from the spring of 2006 to the spring of 2008.
For the first time, experts from all of the Nordic countries had an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences regarding the prescription of assistive devices that support cognitive abilities. Many valuable insights and knowledge have been gained.
Persons with dementia or cognitive impairment, their relatives and prescribers of cognitive assistive devices were interviewed. From the interviews it was clearly seen that information about cognitive assistive devices was deficient. Many of those interviewed said they wished they had had information about cognitive assistive devices earlier in the course of their disease and that they would have liked to have been prescribed cognitive assistive devices at an earlier stage.
The project identified areas where knowledge is deficient and future development work is needed in the field of assistive technology and dementia.
The project report has been translated to each of the Nordic languages.
