Last week the World Health Organisation, WHO published the first World report on disability in cooperation with the World Bank.
WHO promotes the report as an important contribution for implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Over a billion people are estimated to live with some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world's population.
The World report recommends an increased access to assistive technology that is appropriate, sustainable, affordable, and accessible. The Swedish Institute of Assistive Technology, SIAT has participated in the preparation of the texts about assistive technology for persons with disabilities within the institute's cooperation with Disability and Rehabilitation Unit at WHO.
