In December 2009, MonAMI and the University of Zaragoza recieved an award for it´s dedication to technological innovation to make independent living possible for elderly people and people with disabilities. The award “Premios Accessibilidad Universal 2009″, was given by Fundación DFA, Disminuidos Físicos de Aragón, in conjunction with three other projects.
The University of Zaragoza got the most awards in the category of Innovative Technology. All of the nominated projects belonged to the University, and therefore the jury decided to award them all together. A wheelchair controlled with the brain, the MonAMI project, and it´s spin off Bit & Brain, were all awarded for trying to make life more independent for elderly people and people with disabilities, by using new technology.
